National Home Care and Hospice Month

November is National Home Care and Hospice Month

November holds a special place in the hearts of those connected to Saint George Home Health. It’s National Home Care and Hospice Month—a time that’s dedicated to recognizing the invaluable work of senior home care and hospice care providers who offer comfort, compassion, love, and medical support to those who need it.

As we commemorate National Home Care and Hospice Month, we’re taking time to shed light on the importance of senior home care and the important role it plays in ensuring seniors’ health and quality of life.

Beyond Personal Care

For those who aren’t directly familiar with home care, the assumption that it’s synonymous with basic household assistance is common. However, senior care aides provide a service that goes well beyond that. While they may provide some help with light chores and housekeeping, they also provide comprehensive personal care that includes help with bathing, grooming, dressing, and incontinence care, as well as companionship and family support.

In many cases, home care extends beyond care aide services. While some seniors can thrive with the support of a certified caregiver who provides personal care and housekeeping support, others require a higher level of care or a team of caregivers who can provide them with additional services, including medication administration, wound care, and physical therapy.

Helping Seniors Age in Place

Aging is a difficult time for anyone, and it’s something that can quickly be complicated by having to uproot one’s life and move to an assisted living or nursing care facility. Thanks to senior home care, the unique needs of older adults can be addressed safely at home, prolonging the need for institutional care and ensuring seniors can thrive as they age in place, in spite of underlying conditions or mobility issues.

For many seniors, the comfort of home, particularly when paired with the compassion and care of a certified homecare aide or registered nurse, is enough to reduce confusion and other symptoms associated with Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and other conditions related to aging.

Home Care Heroes

The certified aides, nurses, and therapists providing in-home care for seniors are heroes deserving of recognition this National Home Care and Hospice Month and throughout the year. Their dedication and support aren’t just important for seniors; they’re also life-changing for family caregivers and spouses, who can rest assured knowing that their loved one is in safe, capable hands.

If you or your loved one requires medical support or personal care at home, Saint George Home Health’s team of professional and supportive caregivers can help. Contact us today to schedule a free consultation with one of our nurses.
